Day Eleven of Great Hair for the Holidays!

Bobbing through the Holidays. We can't get over how much we love Leighton Meester's post-Blair Waldorf cut. So sleek. So modern. All you have to do is sweep it back off the face and add a red lip for a gorgeous night out. 1) Blow dry hair with Bb thickening Hairspray. Use a flat brush and blow out straight. 2) Flat iron ends to add extra sleekness. 3) Finish style with Bb Grooming Creme spread through fingers and rake hair away from face.

Day Ten of Great Hair for the Holidays!

Almost there! Two more days we hope you are all ready for some fun with family and friends. Braids, twists, and tendrils oh my!
1)Section off your bang area from ear to ear and clip. 2) Gather the rest of your hair into a low, loose ponytail. 3) Unclip the front section and create a center part. Then, twist the hair on each side of the part and gather it into one pony that sits right on top of the first ponytail. Combining the hair from both ponys, create two or three braids. Twist the braids into one bun; pin to secure. Finally, use your fingers to gently widen each braid and pin them together, so you don’t see any gaps. Pull out a few soft tendrils and spritz your hair with Bb Spray de Mode.

Day Six of Great Hair for the Holidays!

FINGERWAVES
Dont let them intimidate you. You have to try what will be one of the new staples in styling for 2013. No more perfect barrel curls. The new texture is either more grungy undone waves or more of a fingerwave. Lets get stared 1) Start with dry hair. Brush hair and create a part to the side or down the middle. Mist hair with Bb Does it all spray. 2) I like to start at the top take a horizontal section about 1 inch thick by 2 inches wide. Curl this section up and pin out of the way. 3) Take the next section directly below the first one. Start with the same dimensions as you did on step two. This section you will curl under. then pin out of the way. 4) Keep repeating these steps all the way around the head. Let them cool before brushing out everything. 5) I like to finsh with a little Bb Brilliantine to smooth flyaways and add shine.

Day Five of Great Hair for the Holidays!

Soft, pulled-apart fishtail braids
Take all of the hair, split it into two and then take a third piece of hair from the outside and put it into the inside. From the left, from the right, from the left, from the right — and you just follow that pattern. It takes about 10 minutes to do one so you need strong fingers. After securing with elastic soften braid by pulling at it on each side to loosen. You can also wrap the braid around the head, you can put it in knots, wrap it into a bun, you can do lots of things to it. You could just have a single braid down the back. That’s the great thing about this kind of hairstyle — it’s versatile. There’s a simple sophistication to. It can be dressed up or down.

Day Four of Great Hair for the Holidays!

This ones for the guys.
This is by far one of our favorite looks on men right now; matte, messy and disheveled. Of course Sumotech is the star in this style. 1. Apply sumotech on slightly damp or dry hair. 2. Muss some pieces on top and smooth down the sides (toward the face). 3. Detail pieces in the front with more sumotech for a perfectly disheveled look

Day Two of great hair for the Holidays!

It's all about the scarf! Love how it looks like you would just pin the hair up and put a scarf on. Begin by applying Bb Thickening Hairspray to the hair and blow-drying it straight back, removing any hint of a part. Next place the scarf around the head about an inch from the hairline and tie it off-center at the nape of the neck , letting the ends sk...im the shoulders. Then with a little Bb Brilliantine roll the hair up as if you are going to do a French twist, instead folding the ends under to form a loop fan the hair out on top of the head. Spray with Bb Spray de Mode hairspray and your done. There's a little indication of the 60’s. The style is finished but has a look of effortless chic.

Introducing Bb Semisumo!

This elegant pomade is strong on shine and soft on hold with six simple ingredients (and one fantastic fragrance). Designed to finish styles that need calming down or polishing up, Semisumo provides workability and definition without weighing hair down. Controls frizz and improves manageability. Next time you're in the salon ask your stylist to touch it, smell it and test it out on your hair!

A little history on the Sumo family.

The sumo family began with the curiosity of a Parisian Editorial Stylist in Japan. During a trip to Tokyo, Laurent Philippon was invited to a sumo wrestling match, where he became enthralled with the way sumo wrestlers wore their hair. He and his fluent traveling companion were invited "backstage" after the match to meet the man who melted a waxy compound in an iron cauldron before applying, cooling and setting the glossy black helmets of hair. Inspired by this smelly stuff, Laurent returned with a mission. Sumowax was the hard-holding result, and the flexible Sumotech soon followed as its modern offspring.
A decade later, Laurent dreamed of giving the sumo brothers a softer side for fluid styles. He imagined a wax that was strong on shine, but soft on hold. Part polish, part definition. Part fashion, part finisher. We answered his request with our first–ever pomade – part wax, part oil – named for its dual nature: Semisumo.

Low Volume Hair

If you’ve see any of the major fall fashion shows on TV or photos in magazines, they have been putting focus on wearable texture, natural ease and feminine approach-ability. Take a look at a few of these fabulous styles featured on harpersbazaar.com that translate from runway to real world very well.

To style try this easy step by step tutorial:

1) Start with damp hair,  add Bumble and Bumble Surf spray throughout.  Let air dry if you have time, or blow dry on low as to not create to much volume.

2) Take large sections of hair and wrap around a two inch iron directed away from face. Apply Bumble and Bumble Grooming Creme liberally smoothing any wild ends and  adding separation.

3) Finish Style with Bumble and Bumble Does it all spray.

The Blondes Guide to Fall and Winter

Blondes

It’s time to say good-bye to flaxen and golden hues and hello to cooler, icy blondes and creamy white highlights.  . Now that the seasons are changing and your summer bronze-y glow is slowly fading, it’s important for all you blondes to adjust your hair color to complement your skin color. If icy and white is too extreme for your eye color and skin tone, then go more beige-y or even a little ash-y. Trust your colorist and let them determine what’s best for you. And don’t forget to maintain the look. Make sure you’re seeing your colorist on a regular basis, even if it is for a slight touch-up.
Help keep your new added low lites with Bumble and Bumble Color Minded shampoo and Conditioner.

50 Shades Of Red

Hey there!

Awwwww - it's fall here in the desert.
Feel the cool crisp air, see the leaves changing color, and notice everyone breaking out their sweaters and boots? Me neither!

But I just love this time of year! And its's not a lie if you believe, right? And maybe if we ALL start thinking this way it can happen!

Melinda Mullen
Owner, Adorn Style Lounge

Auburn, Copper and Ombre - Oh, MY!

So much for positive thinking about cool weather! If nothing else, we can start at least playing with hair color and turning our tresses into some of our favorite fall hues.

I am so excited about the colors this season - especially copper! Don't be afraid, and don't go conjuring up images of Carrot Top!

Picture that fun Ombre you have been wearing all summer that may just need a little freshening up for fall. Maybe just change the tone by adding some spicy color red, gold, or copper to those light ends.

Adorn uses Goldwell Color that has a Demi-Permanent line that can actually help repair your hair by 35% while adding shine and depositng some fun color to faded out, sun-bleached ends. Why not give it a try at your next salon visit?

Hairdressers Invisible Oil

Sublime Softness
This transformative blend of nourishing oils vanishes into hair, leaving a smooth feathersoft feel and a trace of shine. Flyaways disappear, too.

Who: All types (and colors) of hair.

When: Anytime, to soften, smoothe and reduce frizz, tame flyaways, detangle and strengthen hair against breakage.

How: Work sparingly into damp hair before air drying or blow-drying, or smooth through dry hair for a sensational finish. Try it with Thickening Hairspray for a soft, tangle-free blow out, or as a finisher after styling to control flyaways and add polish.

To Be Perfectly Blunt........

True Blunt!

by Brittany Petrillo

For most people, summer is coming to an end. Not so for us here in the Valley of the Sun!
Phoenicians know all too well that we still have a few more months of lounging poolside and burning our hands on the steering wheel! The result of our endless summer is being tanned and radiant - or parched and burnt, with chlorinated hair signaling that it may be time for a post-summer makeover!

Lately, I've been totally OBSESSED with a hairstyle that seems to be trending right now - blunt cuts! I am loving them at mid-lengths, but blunt haircuts are also super cute on short hair and look tres chic on longer lengths!

There are a few options and benefits to the blunt cut. First of all, blunt does NOT have to mean boring! An all one-length blunt cut style can be very edgy when worn pin straight, or subdued and demure when softly curled in loose waves.

A blunt edge on the bottom of a layered cut is adorably playful when worn in bouncy, light-reflecting curls and makes hair look healthy while emphasizing natural beauty when let air dry with volume at the root and tousled with a finishing product such as Bumble & bumble's Hairdresser's Invisible Oil!

Hairdresser's Invisible Oil is a blend of natural oils that absorb COMPLETELY into the hair while nourishing, hydrating, adding shine, and protecting from UVA/UVB rays and thermal styling! It de-frizzes and makes your hair feel feather soft. Hairdresser's Invisible Oil is the perfect product to rehabilitate your summer tresses and refine your hairstyle whether you go blunt or not!

Here is how to get this great edgy style :

1. Apply Color Minded Styling Balm throughout damp hair.
2. Blow-dry hair using a flat brush then curl each section using Does it All.
3. Brush out curls and finish the look by rubbing a small amount of Color Minded Styling Balm through the hair
4. Use Color Minded Polish for shine and separation if needed

Surfs up!

Hey there!

We got your sun, we got your heat, we got your great hair.
Just add water.

Rinse and repeat as often as you can - especially if the "water" you're adding is a getaway to somewhere cool and beachy!

Melinda Mullen

Little Surfer Girl

We've said it before and we'll say it again, we are obsessed with Surf Spray this summer!

Bumble and bumble came out with an amazing collection of hairstyles inspired by Surf Spray and we are so excited to share them with you!

If you want sexy definition like Veronika, follow these easy steps:

Mist Surf Spray on damp hair, focusing on roots

Layer Grooming Creme roots to ends

Air-dry for natural definition (stand in the wind) or diffuse for a sexy, beachy texture

Bb stylist tip: once hair is dry, add some more Grooming Creme for moister, more flexible texture - it feels like salt water with a little suntan lotion.

Just for you - the July Product of the month is Grooming Crème 20% off

Move over Balayage!

There’s a new treatment in town. Hot on the heels of the cult-like hair trend of balayage comes flamboyage. Exclusive at your Adorn Style Lounge, this clever new technique gives hairdressers the freedom to be able to enhance the hairs natural reflect spontaneously with the help of the flamboyage meche tool. Simply put, once the tool is placed on the hair, sections are randomly isolated and then coloured to blend with your natural base tones.

This new revolution in hair colouring is bound to become a favorite. We are all in Love with this new technique!

Would you try it?

FLAMBOYAGE! Unprecedented tool for a new and revolutionary approach to colour.

Now being offered by your color specialists at Adorn Style Lounge!

A new revolutionary colour service borne out of creativity and technical skills it is a versatile, practical and simple tool used to achieve extremely natural-looking results. Creates a diffused and harmonious chromatic result all along the hair length and minimises the regrowth effect.

Innovation never arises out of chance, but from a repetition of reality that is carefully observed from a different perspective. This is the origin of Flamboyage, the innovative colour service that enhances natural reflects by spontaneously blending bright and saturated tones with natural bases, to create super-rich reflect patterns all along the hair length, whilst offering unprecedented creative freedom to hairdressers and colourists.

This is a practical adhesive strip that provides precise and creative colouring, selecting and isolating with a simple and fast gesture a small random amount of hair that firmly adheres to the strip, to become a new working surface.

Unlike other colour accessories currently on the market (aluminium foils, strips in various materials, etc.), Flamboyage Meche enables not only isolation, but also and especially the selection of a small and random amount of hair to be coloured.

With the help of this new colour tool, the colourist can achieve and easily repeat chromatic results that are unattainable when working free-hand along the hair length.

Call Today for your complimentary color consultation!

May Product of the Month = All travel size products!

Ok, maybe I am dating myself, but I think every kid has heard that end-of-the-school-year anthem.

Vacatio...n Hair!

By Brittany Petrillo

School is almost out, finals are almost over. You know what that means? Weekend trips to the beach, family vacations, road trips with friends!

Whatever travel you may be doing this summer, you're going to want you hair to look HOT! Taking your favorite full-sized hair product with you can really be a challenge.

Here's some tips to dealing with packing for the road:

If you're going to be driving, leaving products in a hot car can spoil the product and damage its efficacy. Pack small containers in your purse in a zip lock bag, so when you stop for a cool beverage or a long lunch, they will stay cool (and if they leak they won't hurt your purse).

If flying is your itinerary, check out the TSA regulations for sizes and amounts you can bring in your carry-on bag. You CAN pack full-sized products in checked luggage, but you risk losing the pressure in your products (especially hair spray). Again, the gallon-baggie is a great way to protect your belongings.

Most Bumble and bumble products come in travel sizes! So rather than guessing if that empty travel bottle you bought at Walgreens is the right size or struggling with a funnel to get your conditioner into it without wasting half the bottle, come in to Adorn Style Lounge and pick up some travel sizes. Plus, they are just so baby-cute!

Aprils product of the month. Surf Spray!

One of our most adored products!  Create those loose beach waves everyone wants.
What you’ll need:

-Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray -At least 6-8 Butterfly Clips

Just in time for the warm breeze that is quickly approaching, here is a relaxed and HEAT FREE (that means NO damage or fuss from a single hot tool, ladies!) style you may want to try. Since this look air dries, I recommend you start on hair that is not soaking wet, but just a little damp prior to the rest of your morning beauty routine. Generously spray your hair with Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray evenly from roots to ends. No need to be fancy—remember this look is “easy breezy”. Now, open a butterfly clip and collect about a 2 inch section of hair in a scrunchy, wiggly movement to clip at your scalp. Repeat this process in a carefree manner until all of your hair is clipped up, conveniently out of the way for you to apply your makeup and chow down on some breakfast while your hair air dries. It is totally optional, but depending on the timeframe you have available in the morning, you could lightly run your blow dryer with cool air all over to set the style and speed up the drying process. After hair has dried, remove all of the clips, and shake into a fun beachy style—perfectly imperfect waves. Surf Spray can also be used on dry hair, so if you’d like to spray a little more and play with the texture, that is also an option. The last step is to head over to Adorn Style Lounge for a cute and comfy maxi dress, nautical style shirt, or accessory to compliment your fabulously casual new do!

2. Rub a little bit of Styling Wax through your fingers and smooth through hair styling as you go. Easy as that!

Have a shiny New Year!

Whew!

We made it through another Holiday season, and the beginning of a New Year.

What's on your resolution list this year? A better diet? Working out more? Volunteering or giving back?
Let's serve up a simple one - make your hair the very healthiest it can be!

Not only is this an easy one to check off the list, you are also going to feel great starting out with a realistic goal that you can achieve quickly. Now, that's a way to start the New Years!

Melinda Mullen
Owner, Adorn Style Lounge

Resolve to Be Simple and Shiny...
by Cami Fisher

... we're talking HAIR styles here, of course!

If all the hustle and bustle of the letdown after holiday season has left you a little less than "jolly and bright" - this may be the perfect time to liven and brighten those locks!

Adding a little style and shine to your hair may be just enough motivation to get every other resolution in order for you this year!

The 2012 hair forecast is still leaning towards simple and healthy. However, many of us have a hard time making simple and healthy going hand-in-hand. Let's make this easy: start by having a great clarifier like Bb's Sunday. Like the name suggests, it's only needed once every 1-2 weeks depending on your everyday hair routine; plus, it's a great way to remove all build up of old product.

Next, follow up with a lightweight shine and moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. My personal favorite is Bb's "Shine" shampoo and conditioner.

Lastly, finish your clean and shiny look with one of the many simple styles we will be seeing in all the latest catwalks and magazines: ponytails, braids, buns, or my favorite - the side bun!

Let this year's resolutions begin with all things simple and shiny!!!

Hair Trends in 2012

With a New Year here, all of our clients are asking about what's new in hair trends. Thought it would be fun to share some of the new looks with everyone.  2012, hair is all about revivals and evolution. With styles and colours we’re seeing the best of 2011 reborn, whereas cuts are offering reworked and luxurious revivals of styles that sit perfectly with the year’s clothing trends.

Below are a few of the trends that we have been noticing.

Long & bouncy

Described as a gorgeous blow-out the bouncy blow dry gives long hair a groomed, elegant yet relaxed finish. Inspired, in part, by the 70s fashion revival but working across most of 2012′s looks, you can can come in and have one of our talented staff do a Bumble and Bumble Blow out on you it can last up to a week! This bouncy blow dry ensures that you have the optimum bounce in the roots and the soft waves to frame your face.

French twist

Given that classic fashion revivals define 2012, it should come as no surprised to find that classic hairstyles also go a long way to defining the year. Equally of no surprise is the fact that the French Twist will be big this year.  Love the classic look of this!

Mod bob

Short. Voluminous. Messy. This is the 2012 women’s hairstyle that marries a short hair cut with the best of the 1960s fashion revival to create the Mod Bob
that’s been inspired by the likes of Brigitte Bardot and Twiggy. So Cute!

Believe it or not Gray! Yes Gray!

Probably one of the most surprising colors that we are seeing is gray. Believe it or not, women are seeing this once dreaded shade through a whole new set of eyes. One of the hottest trends is “Gray lights” and white/gray bases. These colors have become very popular with affluent trendsetters and models and the movement is beginning to trickle down to the average person. Pop singer Pink and model Kate Moss are just two of the many women that are trying out this new look and loving it.

Hope you enjoyed our 2012 preview.  We will be sharing more soon.  Just wanted to show you some of our favorites!
Happy New Year!
